The lessons of Engineering

I think the most important lessons of engineering are to be learnt outside the class room. Engg more than a humongously large number of subjects each semester has to be about surviving on your own. If you are lucky as I am, you will live in a hostel and there will be no place to run away from all the troubles of life. Conflicts will literally follow you to your room. You will grapple with roommates some of them pleasant and the rest outrightly hostile and at one time or the other even the best will go through a snapping and biting phase.

Everything you own will be at risk of being permanently borrowed and u will be
lucky if u dont loose some stuff or the other each week.

There ain't no mom or dad to run too. You have to stand your ground even if there is the threat of wider conflict.

There is nobody to turn to in case of an illness. You lie in your bed fully miserable with a line or two of consolation from a buddy.

You grapple with impossible deadlines. U meet some and others simply pass by like long over crushes.

This is no joke. This is life.

But this is the whole advantage of engg. The lessons one learns are the lessons of life. For future MBA Grads these are worth their weight in gold. Because there is no easy way to learn these lessons. Tuorials cant help anyone here.

Expeience often comes from previous poor judgement.

The Blog stagnates....

It appears no one wants to post on this blog. Four posts and all mine.
Come on people live it up.
We have had so much stuff happening in the campus and so much lethargy on the blog.
How about a post from the Microsoft gals on the microsoft interview. Btw congrats to Tosif on clearing the first round of Google. He is being flown to Hyderabad next wee for the next round. Hope he clears it. All the best wishes and luck from our side.

Batch T-Shirt

Hey I was thinking of why we can't have a batch T-Shirt.

We have branch t-shirts but most of them have faded.

How about a semi formal (collared) with perhaps the AIT logo and message printed.

Something "AIT class of 08","AIT 04-08","Part of the AIT batch of 08".

If its not too much in the face kind of t-shirt we could even wear it to work on Fridays etc.

What do you say.

Any suggestions?

Another Idea that strikes me write now are ties with something similar written. Not the cheap logo as printed on our ties but something embroidered.

Would give a grand look and could also be a conversation starter.

Why?

Why a group blog, many might ask?

Simply because as part of the AIT class of 08 we would soon graduate and loose touch.

News is a difficult thing to spread. We can never regulate how it jumps from one group to another. The whole world will know of an embarrassing goof-up. but even our closest friends may not know the details of an astounding success.

And Orkut does not help. Catchy names do not tell the whole story. And there is just too much spam on the communities. The last post on the AIT community of 08 is two months old.

This group blog is for helping people stay in touch. To let others know where we are. And how we are.

Of jobs and assignments.
Very few of us will stay in one place for long. Hopefully through this we shall always know where others are. And when the option exists, people could tell us about recommend a friend system at their companies.

Of marriages and kids. The brides shall come and so shall the grooms. I can seee people smirking but I can assure you, its all true. If desired you could always announce still 'Single and ready to mingle'.

Of illnesses and .Because the old man with the scythe is swinging at us continually and we unconsciously jump around ducking for cover. But with time we will get a little slow, a bit tired at the joints and only the notches on the scythe will mark our passing. This is perhaps the biggest truth of life. Tragically the first notch is already there.

Every batch that passes out from any college believes itself as a group to be special. Too many years together do it.Ironically, the truth is every snowflake is unique.

But there are reasons to believe that we are better. The CAT results have been spectacular. This being just the final year of engg there is reason to assume we shall have a record number of C.E.O's, C.F.O.'s, C.T.O.'s etc. among ourselves.

Anyway hoping that this blog does what it is meant to do. Let us keep in touch and share the news.
